It’s this time of the year that fans of the Rainforest World Music Festival start booking their flight to Sarawak, also the accomodation as it would be fully booked a month near the festival. I was there two years ago and it was hell lot of fun!

Sarawak Rainforest World Music Festival 2009 Review

What most visitors of the festival do not know is the nightly jam sessions at the Santubong Resort poolside until sunrise.”

Sarawak Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF)

The 1st step to RWMF is to secure your flight to Kuching and secure yourself a good place to stay as early as 5 months earlier.”

Why The Rainforest World Music Festival Needs to Change

“When I am at the Rainforest World Music Festival, I feel I am in another country. It’s not Malaysia any more. It’s laidback, it’s international, it’s cool. It’s also open air, no seats (just bring a mat), informal and come-as-you-wish.”

“From those days in 2002 when I could pay less than RM1000 for a 4D/3N at Holiday Inn Damai Beach which included the festival ticket for 3 days, now I have to pay lots more.”

Back from Rainforest World Music Festival!! :)

We stayed at the Permai Rainforest Resort, which was advertised as a mere 10 minute walk from the Sarawak Cultural Village (where the festival was held) and sneakily enough, it was – from the ENTRANCE of the resort to the cultural village! Getting from the entrance to our cabins was another 15-20mins walk!

Kuching – Day 5, workshops and the tree of life RWMF III

Camp Permai look like a really nice place to stay in… I now know why this festival is the best music festival in the world. Everyone is just so friendly and unpretentious.

Laguna Redang Island Resort

“Who wouldn’t be fascinated by the mesmerizing sun, soft white sand and crystal-clear water? I bet almost every one will be thinking of stripping nude and just run frantically into the sea”

Trip to Redang – Laguna Redang

“The Laguna Redang staff make it even sweeter as well . I would say this is one of the few places where they really try to please you – literally, you can just ask and they’ll try the very best to help… which is cool especially with my 3 year old daughter”

Redang Island Diving Trip

“On surface, suddenly Peter gets panic and struggling to get afloat (Skill 2). I was right in front of him so I held one of his hands, I pulled him slightly harder towards me and that caused him turn around and his back facing me”

Redang – Part IV

“That’s part of the whole set up. Drewy the lousy photographer; didn’t catch the full extent of the whole deco. So, anyway, in front of me was the “X” that marked the spot (more like the flowers that marked the spot) where my present was buried. I dug and dug and dug (my girls had to help me… it was a big box and BOY, did they bury it deep!) and finally… I got my pressieeee!!!

Redang Day 2

Again, Redang 2008

“Probably because few popular resorts are located here, like the Laguna Redang Resort. Not forgetting the most-photographed-thing-in-Redang, the headless woodboard.”

Sipadan Island

…is indeed a diver’s paradise. Located in Sabah, Sipadan has so much to offer to its divers and tourist.  Here’s my pick and quotes taken from blogs that I’ve read!

Budget Tips to Sipadan Island

The cheapest lodge is definitely Uncle Chang’s Sipadan Mabul Dive Lodge. It’s very basic, mattresses on the floor and shared bathing but you go to the islands for the diving and the resort for rum party evenings not to catch up on your sleep.

For a little more money you could try something totally different and take a room on the converted oil rig called SeaVentures. This offers you the opportunity for unlimited diving under the rig with your buddy which makes it all great value. You also have more chance of getting some sleep on the rig!

Diving during the Chinese New Year Holidays

I’ve spent nearly 2 weeks of diving at Sipadan Water Village Resort, covering Sipadan, Mabul, Kapalai and Si Amil. The dive condition was wonderful during the first week with really good visibility (an average of 18-20meters) and I was glad to know that the weather and visibility only turned bad on our departure day (yesterday) with strong blowing wind and waves.

My Vacation to Sipadan Island

Arrive Semporna, a small town off Tawau. At the back is Dragon Inn, where we are staying. Room rate is RM60 per night. But most important it is a water chalet……..with this amount you get hot shower, TV and breakfast. Lunch and dinner, you can go to a local restaurant…..either Uncle Chang or Fung Ling. They provides a wonderful meal …….don’t take my word for it, try it out yourself. Seafood in Semporna is damn cheap, just be adventurous and try everything.

Mabul/Sipadan

Took a week off with one of my best friends from the States whose been on a diving/photography kick for the last few years. We originally thought about going to dive Australia’s GBR, bounced around the idea of New Caledonia, but then ended up on the much closer (and cheaper!) islands of Mabul and Sipadan in Malaysian Borneo. Overall, I got in 11 regular dives, 1 night dive, and 4 dives in Sipadan over the 6 nights I was there.
