Without wasting anymore time, I cheekily jumped to the next question. “Are you lonely up here?” KLT was quick in his reply.
“Should I? Look here; do you think I’m lonely with so many tourists from all over the world coming to visit me every day?” I guessed not and I looked defeated! It was silly of me to have asked.

“Let me take you on a walking tour,” KLT insisted. “As you can see, there are many activities going on here. There’s the Flying Fox Park where you could literally “fly in the air”. This adventure is not for people who are afraid of heights,” KLT reminded me.
I was trying to get tips from a veteran player for the paintball game later.

I have played once at Bukit Jalil but am excited of the different maps in store. The place is called TAG at Taman Desa Waterpark.

I was getting a bit impatient but I could not bear leaving the line when we were already waiting for a good 20 minutes.

Finally, after around half an hour of waiting, we were finally ushered into a table.
MSNed my cousin sister who is a MO in Taiping hospital and asked her for hotel recommendation. She recommended Flemington Hotel and it is a newly opened hotel with WIFI services and it is near to Taiping Lake.
We stayed at the Panorama Hotel which is smack in the middle of town. Compared to the rest of the hotels in town, it is above average but compared to KL standards, it is run-down. The rooms are big and the bedding clean but the amenities is lacking and the air-cond cannot be regulated so we all froze to death. Its location is very convenient to get food though.

We did not get a shot of the raintree branches curving their way to the water’s edge as it was drizzling at that time but you can easily search for sample shots. Again, the Taiping Lake Gardens puts the Lake Gardens in KL to shame .

We really enjoyed our meals in SSL Traders Hotel. I heard from my father-in-law that the chefs in the kitchen are from Kuala Lumpur, no wonder the foods tasted so KL-ish! Haha Well, we ordered a few dishes. 4 to be more precise. One of the most memorable dish that my taste buds experienced was the “Don’t-know-what sea cucumber” dish. It was really luscious.
The cheapest lodge is definitely Uncle Chang’s Sipadan Mabul Dive Lodge. It’s very basic, mattresses on the floor and shared bathing but you go to the islands for the diving and the resort for rum party evenings not to catch up on your sleep.

For a little more money you could try something totally different and take a room on the converted oil rig called SeaVentures. This offers you the opportunity for unlimited diving under the rig with your buddy which makes it all great value. You also have more chance of getting some sleep on the rig!

The dive condition was wonderful during the first week with really good visibility (an average of 18-20meters) and I was glad to know that the weather and visibility only turned bad on our departure day (yesterday) with strong blowing wind and waves.

At the back is Dragon Inn, where we are staying. Room rate is RM60 per night. But most important it is a water chalet……..with this amount you get hot shower, TV and breakfast. Lunch and dinner, you can go to a local restaurant…..either Uncle Chang or Fung Ling. They provides a wonderful meal …….don’t take my word for it, try it out yourself. Seafood in Semporna is damn cheap, just be adventurous and try everything.

Took a week off with one of my best friends from the States whose been on a diving/photography kick for the last few years. We originally thought about going to dive Australia’s GBR, bounced around the idea of New Caledonia, but then ended up on the much closer (and cheaper!) islands of Mabul and Sipadan in Malaysian Borneo. Overall, I got in 11 regular dives, 1 night dive, and 4 dives in Sipadan over the 6 nights I was there.
