KL Hilton

KL Hilton is located at the heart of KL….it has much to offer to tourist & locals…

#1 The City That Never Sleeps

Xpress Band at Zeta Bar, KL Hilton

The Xpress Band made its appearance at Zeta Bar, KL Hilton last week. Performed in various other countries such as Bangkok, Singapore as well as Taiwan, the band actually originated from British Colombia, Canada and the USA.

The band will generally be performing every night at Zeta Bar, except Sundays where its closed. Do go and check them out – as they will only be performing from now til 30th April 2010 only – after which they continue touring again…

Valentine’s Day at Iketeru, Hilton KL

The Red FM gang and I eagerly headed over on a Wednesday evening to sample some seriously luscious food. Located on Level 8, a dimly lit pathway leads you away from the pool and to a waterfall.

The soothing sounds of running water melted our stresses away, and we walked through the doors of Iketeru to a bustling interior. Teppanyaki Chef’s were in full action, chopping and sizzling items on the grill. Skillful hands sliced and rolled delicate portions of sushi, and gleaming knives slit through fresh, raw fish, turning them into sashimi in the blink of an eye.

Chinese New Year Celebration at Chynna in the Hilton Kuala Lumpur

As you step into the restaurant, you will notice the intricate decor that surrounds you; from the bright red lanterns to the high wooden drawers and paintings. It’s as though you have taken a step back into time.

The stacks of steamed delights whet your appetite as you wait for your dim sums or dishes. In our case, we had both (as predicted).

Attending 1st Food Blogger Wedding, KL Hilton

Over this Saturday weekend, a group of us food bloggers a.k.a. floggers attended our very first food blogger wedding held in KL Hilton. Lighting was rather dim…with romance in the air for the lovely couple and romance with the food for us floggers (but that meant some food shots turning out blur for me, hahaha…)

I found this to be the tastiest dish of that night – Fresh (raw?) scallops with light cream dressing, topped with pistachios and mango bits. Absolutely delicious!

Cheong Liew at Senses 5th Anniversary, KL Hilton. Something Old, Something New. Something Borrowed, Nothing Blue.

Senses is part of the KL Hilton Studio Restaurants and is currently headed by a young Australian Chef, Michael Elfwing. It features contemporary Australian cuisine and is still being overseen by Cheong Liew. Throughout the meal, flashes of brilliance were evident and there is no disputing that Cheong Liew is a very clever chef.

Chinese cuisine is deconstructed to it’s essence which shows a remarkbable understanding of Chinese Cooking Technique and Philosophy and resurrected as again, married beautifully with perfect western cooking techniques

I especially liked the lobby. They had 100% authentic music oriented merchandise/costumes on a glass display all around. Some from Elton John, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue and the list goes on! Some even from those artistes dating all the waaaaay back to my parents’ era!

Do not stay in Grand View Hotel in Ipoh

Grand View Hotel in Ipoh sucks. It is dirty. It has suspicious looking smudges and stains on the walls and dark stains on the carpet.

Lumpy bed, worse than lumpy pillows and threadbare sheets. Also not forgetting scratchy blankets which we didn’t use thanks to the hot cond.

Ants!

Ipoh, Perak

This is the hotel reception of Ipoh City Hotel. It cost us RM93.50 nett per night for a twin bed room.

The hotel lounge provide free wifi service. Even though I found that the rate is a bit expensive for a simple hotel like this, let me compare the room condition as with Casuarina Ipoh Hotel, a 5 star rated hotel.

#3 Rosamundwo.com

Hotel  Excelsior @ Ipoh

It’s quite affordable ranging Rm140 – 150+ only..for a double bed (2 person) plus breakfast and got radio + Astro. Many rooms available during weekdays.
Beside the hotel, it’s 24 hours convenient shop just like 7-11.
I forgotten to bring my slipper, so bought one less than Rm5 slipper at this shop.
Opposite this hotel is hawker food court, it’s open at nite also.. you can have your dinner here is you’re hungry.

It’s walking distance to Onn Kee, Lou Wong, Hup Kee biscuits, Funny Mountain, also Foh San Dim Sum

We stayed here for 1 day. It’s clean, soap, shampoo, shower cap available for you and also towel. It’s clean also. I will stay there again next time if i visit to Ipoh.

A Trip to Bukit Tinggi Resort

There are a few places to visit there which is the French Village, Japanese Garden and Animal Farms. The journey to Bukit Tinggi Resort took us around 1 hour to reach there from Damansara. The entrance fee for each person is RM16 (which is really quite expensive!). We went to French Village as soon as we reached there.

Berjaya Hills (Bukit Tinggi)

For RM3 an adult, you get to terrorize those furry cuties all you like. On public holidays, the rabbit park is full capacity, not the rabbits of course. There, I saw things done to bunnies that gave me nightmares that day. I saw them squeezed, tugged, pulled at, spun around, chased about and cuddled till they stopped struggling.

#3 Clever Munkey

Berjaya Hills Colmar Tropicale

To enter into Colmar Tropicale, you will have to pay RM10 for the visitor’s ticket at the main entrance gate. For those who stayed in the resorts or hotels will be an exceptional. Well, it’s still cheap for a local to pay such amount, right?

I was so amazed by the architecture and the design of the structureslooks so historical and classy especially the castle and the bridge… feels like a DRAGON SLAYER!! LOL :)

Trip to Berjaya Hills

The Koi pond in the Botanical Gardens. U can buy some fish feed for these hungry buggers. After another 30 minutes in both the Japanese Village AND Botanical Gardens, we headed back to the resort. On the way up, I stopped by the roadside to snap a picture of one of the upcoming resorts, which I also cannot recall the name…must be getting old.

We participated in this team building indeed received and benefited more than what we have expected. Besides, the French-theme resort venue allows us to escape from the hustle-bustle of city life and find relaxation in great nature escapade.

Count on Number Eight to give you comfort and style on budget. This is not a paid post, but I just thought that it’d be good to share with the world, on your beauty sleep when you’re on a precious weekend in KL for shopping or lepaking ;)

Walk For World Pink, World Without Breast Cancer 2009

I would like to thank Jean for inviting me along to this meaningful event. This event is sponsored by Estee Lauder Companies. We were required to purchase a RM30 ticket to join but since Jean has an extra ticket, I got to join this for free. From what I know, it is limited to 1200 participants. The things that attracted me to join are: 1)Jean invited me, 2)Charity, and 3)I was told that there will be special lighting on KL Tower.

KL Tower – Walk Of World Pink 2009

On Saturday I went for the charity walk, awareness of breast cancer, organized by Estee Lauder company at KL Tower. I love pink…enjoy the photo of the event! The run started at 6.30pm, about 3.8km, which I feel it was more than that, it took me about 45mins to complete that, well the entire fasting month I didn’t exercise at all, and only manage to go for walked twice after raya, so my leg was so painful.

#3 Weird Weird Denial

Rare Wedding at KL Tower

This weekend was mightily hectic. First on a Saturday morning went for a day shooting, and I ended up myself feeling very exhausted and tired due to the insufficient sleep the previous night. That’s why on the way home, I slept until it was time for the wedding dinner to attend. Boy….. the dinner was at KL Tower. Impressive place to have your wedding dinner there and the food… hmm… nice. The view was spectacular too, if it was clearer.

KL (Tower) Revolving Restaurant

Kami terus saja naik .. tunjuk coupons dan waitress ushered us to our place – prebooked! by our angels. Table No.41 *window view*, yes! a table for two ..ambience was wonderful, with live pianist. Restaurant Seri Angkasa is 282 meter above the ground and revolving, it takes more than an hour to make one round and you can see different scenarios while seated and eating. It was a real experience to see KL under your feet at nite .. dilangit bintang berkelipan .. tengok bawah lampu2 berkilauan – spectacular!!

Kuala Lumpur Tower ‘Comes Alive’

That is true, Kuala Lumpur Tower stands proudly as the symbol of Kuala Lumpur, “Garden City of Lights” and doubles as the city’s best known ambassador.

Without wasting anymore time, I cheekily jumped to the next question. “Are you lonely up here?” KLT was quick in his reply.
“Should I? Look here; do you think I’m lonely with so many tourists from all over the world coming to visit me every day?” I guessed not and I looked defeated! It was silly of me to have asked.

“Let me take you on a walking tour,” KLT insisted. “As you can see, there are many activities going on here. There’s the Flying Fox Park where you could literally “fly in the air”. This adventure is not for people who are afraid of heights,” KLT reminded me.

Desa Water Park

Is the ONLY water park located within KL…its an ideal entertainment spot for the family and famous for “Thunderbolt” ride….many charity events have been conducted there….

Krabi – This, that and meeting Tony Fernandez, Air Asia

This place is across the street from Aonang Buri Resort and the food here is better, the view too. We were so amused by how much they glorify their toilet – how’d you like to have your toilet up in lights like this? :) One thing for sure, you wouldn’t miss this toilet!

Jonker Street, Melaka

You have not been to Melaka if you have not visited Jonker Street!!! The street is spoilt for its varieties of enticing food, rich cultural heritage as well as antiques. Who on the right mindset would resist Melaka’s chicken rice BALLs, satay celup and the ever so famous Baba Nyonya ais kacang? I’m not a big fan of durian, but you MUST try Baba’s durian cendol & ice kacang ;)

Hoe Kee Chicken Rice Balls @ Jonker Street, Melaka

Hoe Kee’s Hainan Chicken is definitely more tender, with smooth slippery skin and better presented if compared to Chung Hwa’s. I found the taste to be quite distinctive in a good way too, different from the usual chicken rice we eat in Penang or KL and Ipoh’s bean sprouts chicken.

#2 Simple Life 简单的生活

Malacca Foods: Baba Cendul and Ice Kacang

They are so many Cendul Shops along Jonker Walk and I read from floggers that Jonker 88 – The Museam Cafe and The No 1 Kopitiam are the best.

I tried the Jonker 88 shop and this seems to be very popular with long queue. I came here around 11.30am and my intention is try the nyonya cendul. Too full for the Nyonya Assam Laksa.

#3 lunaticg banknote & coin

Jonker Street Melaka

I can not see any Malacca hotel along Jonker Street. Maybe because my eyes a bit busy looking at antique and souvenir on display in shop houses along this street. Most of the shops in here are selling tin coins from Melaka coinage. The only problem for me is that the price ain’t that cheap. Most of the shop selling price is double then what I can get from other places in Malaysia. It sound a bit ridiculous for collector like me but this is a place for tourist, most probably the seller just want to take extra profit. Almost any antique shop in Malaysia will be selling their item a bit higher then market price. Make sure you knew how much is the market price for your item before you’re buying from any antique shop or you will need a laser eye surgery after buying from those antique shop because of the high price tag.

#4 Ah Kwong & Friends

Night Market, Jonker Street, Malacca

I’m missing that time when i vacation at Malacca, unlike now i’m not happy at all. Back to Malacca trip story, we walked to Jonker Street night market after visit A Famosa. It’s already 7pm that time, i felt hungry and actually i ate a lot of foods that night. After meet with Sogua and his friends, then we start to walk this night market. I heard it’s nice & totally no pirated CD/DVD sold there.

Jonker Street night market just like petaling street night market. A lot of food’s, Souvenirs, cookies, Coffee, Dim Sum, Fruit Candy Stick, Laksa & etc. Wow, i just like eat crazy that night.

#5 Demoments

Eating at Jonker Street, Melaka

This shop is famous for their soft pork slice (flour coated) cook in Bakuteh’s soup. Instead of serving with claypot, the dish is served individually with yam rice. You can opt for just pork slice or have your soup mix with intestines. Per serving is Rm5 (they add your bakuteh soup generously when you ask for soup refill) and each bowl yam rice is Rm1. Although it is crowded, I see that most patrons are local (good that it’s not discovered yet…*nyek…nyek…nyek*)

Since it was a Public Holiday, Jonker Street was very crowded. Not wanting to look for a side parking at the roadside, we went to a paying parking lot and walked to Hotel Puri (since QQ wanted to see where Yue Niang lives – place where Little Nyonya drama series was filmed).

It is really a beautiful hotel comprise of 3 long houses where the middle house was demolished and converted into an open air garden / restaurant.

On Exploring Jonker Walk and Eating Satay Celup

The wait was long, definitely much longer than what I endured when I tried eating Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice and IKEA Meatballs. I was getting a bit impatient but I could not bear leaving the line when we were already waiting for a good 20 minutes.

Finally, after around half an hour of waiting, we were finally ushered into a table. I was at first disappointed with what I saw because it was very dirty inside the restaurant. The floor was somehow wet and dirty with lots of used tissue papers scattered around. People who were done eating were smoking, added to the fact that it was hot and noisy inside. Needless to say, I try not to let it bother me.

#7 BlurryLeos

Trip to Malacca – Going around Malacca town

When one is in Malacca, one should get the authentic nyonya pineapple tarts. It’s one of the authentic Malacca delicacy.

There is this shop named LW which specialised in the pineapple tarts. The shop is located along Jonker Street.

When you reach the shop, you’ll be greeted by a giant pineapple tart placed right in front of the shop.

Personally, I prefer the tarts from this shop as the taste is much better compared to others. But again, when it comes to taste, it’s very much depending on personal preference

Jonker Walk Night Market, Malacca (Melaka)-(CNY 2008 Trips)

Strange but common here! It’s karaoke session on the stage, senior audiences and fans surround the stage…….most of the oldies was perform that night.

And this is my favorite cafe : Geographer Cafe. This is the first time I visit this cafe during night time and it’s full until I can’t even squeeze in!

We spend our night there until midnight, my daughter was so happy with her new toys but totally exhausted!
We love the atmosphere around this street and will visit again in the future.

Jonker Walk

I’ll just post some pictures of my favourite night market by far, Jonker Walk in Jalan Hang Jebat, Melaka. Enjoy!

Tokinado, with fillings (kaya, red bean, peanut butter or chocolate) sandwiched between what looks like two pancake cakes :P

Tok-tok tong. The “ting ting tok tok” sound drew a lot of curious passer-by’s as it can be heard from far away. He sells this hard peanut candy for RM2 per small packet. It is not very sweet, with minty-flavour and extremely hard to bite ;)

Melaka’s signature wooden clogs

#10 Asmaliana

Melaka Chinatown’s newest guest house

Somewhere in Jonker Street and Harmony Street. The best area for walking. As you walk, you will not feel the heat as old shop houses will bring your imagination back in the past. As a living museum, the difference maybe new paint and technology. But the truth is, place that you are standing still serve it’s owner like 200 years ago. Look at all the classic furniture and picture of the heirloom.

When browsing the shops at Melaka China Town, seek for Tang House, if you are lucky they still have a room for you. A classic, a history you know like airwell, pitched roofs with Chinese tiles, and detailed brick work but they work with modern need.

We stayed at the Panorama Hotel which is smack in the middle of town. Compared to the rest of the hotels in town, it is above average but compared to KL standards, it is run-down. The rooms are big and the bedding clean but the amenities is lacking and the air-cond cannot be regulated so we all froze to death. Its location is very convenient to get food though.

We did not get a shot of the raintree branches curving their way to the water’s edge as it was drizzling at that time but you can easily search for sample shots. Again, the Taiping Lake Gardens puts the Lake Gardens in KL to shame .
